Wedding Dress Costs

Most of us, when it comes to discussing money, we don’t want to talk about it.

However we set budgets for most things, food shop, car, house etc. some things have wiggle room and others not.

When budgeting for a wedding, if you have a set budget and don’t want to increase it, then set out your maximum spend for each professional service or item that you would like, including your wedding dress.

Here are just a few questions that we get asked about our gowns, in terms of cost.

How much does a wedding gown cost at Sophia Grace Couture?

We currently work with ten different designers in our main bridal suites, all of whom have different prices points and range

from £1800 to £4200.  Click on each individual designer on our wedding dress section for each price range.

We also, in addition, have our Bridal Outlet where all ex-sample gowns range from £750 - £1500.

Why are there variations in prices?

It used to be that more detail meant a higher price point; however, that’s not always true.  Yes, in some circumstances that most definitely is the case, for example, Hayley Paige designs and creates all her own laces, so that comes at a higher cost.  Designers need to factor in so many more expenses than before, such as shipping, not just to get your dream dress to the boutique but also all the components that are used to create your gown need to be, in some cases shipped to the designer.

Why do you need to know what my dress budget is?

We’ve all been there: seen an item of clothing we love, tried it on, and once we’ve fallen in love with it, discovered it is the most expensive item in the shop and way out of budget.

When you visit Sophia Grace Couture your Stylist will invite you to browse our collection, each dress has a label with the price attached.  Once you have tried on your chosen selection your Stylist will then go and pick others for you to try on.  If we know where you are comfortable with in terms of budget we won’t select any dress over that for you to try on.

Can I pay for my dress in instalments?

If you purchase a gown from our main bridal suites, we request 50% deposit to order your gown and the balance isn’t due to be paid until your own gown arrives with us, generally 4 – 6 months later.  Once the 50% deposit has been paid you can also pay a monthly amount towards your gown balance if you prefer to do that.

Are alterations included in the price of a wedding dress?

No, each bride will require different types of alterations and we do not include these in the price of your gown.

Why do alteration costs vary and what are the costs?

It really depends on what alterations are required to be carried out on your gown and dress style.  For example, most wedding dresses will need to be hemmed to be an exact length for you to wear on your wedding day.  If you have a lace or beaded hem the seamstress will need to unpick the lace or remove beading, shorten the gown then reattach, this can be a lengthy process.  For a crepe gown, this will require to be cut and hemmed therefore a much faster and less costly alteration.

Costs do vary for alterations, for standard alterations such as, strap lift, hem, minimal take in or let out expect to pay between £250 and £500.

For more information on alterations visit our alteration blog.
